President’s Letter – April 2026

Dear NAPF Community,

On April 7, I woke up to the headlines that President Trump had posted that “a whole civilization will die tonight.” To say that this pronouncement was deeply disturbing, despite coming on the heels of all that the President had said and done in preceding weeks and months, is a severe understatement. That same evening, we had the honor of hosting the 21st Frank K. Kelly Lecture in Santa Barbara, delivered by the one and only Professor Richard Falk. The timing of the event was surreal, with the lecture starting just a couple of hours after the announcement of the ceasefire. Richard’s remarks could not have been more timely, relevant, or insightful. Speaking about the “Road Not Taken” throughout the nuclear age, with his characteristic brilliance and goodness, Richard managed to inspire us in what many will remember as a defining moment. This Monday, April 27, at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, the 11th Review Conference of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT) will begin and last for four weeks. Taking place amidst arguably the worst geopolitical conditions since 1945, and certainly since the end of the Cold War, the conference will be challenging, its outcome at the moment uncertain. NAPF will be there throughout, holding and participating in side events, giving statements, and working with civil society and diplomatic partners to promote a message of peace and disarmament. We will hold governments, most especially the Nuclear Weapons States, to account on their disarmament failures, failures that are directly responsible for the tenuous conditions we find ourselves in. 2026 NPT Review Conference: NAPF Events, Advocacy & Updates

The 2026 NPT Review Conference opens April 27 at United Nations Headquarters in New York, running through May 22.

NAPF will be attending as a civil society organization, delivering two interventions and hosting a full slate of side events: including a youth nuclear disarmament summit, panels on disarmament education and the humanitarian impacts of nuclear weapons, an art exhibit, and a film screening at Columbia University.
