August 29 is the International Day Against Nuclear Tests. Our intern and Reverse the Trend youth activist, Elias Mera Taouli, delivered a youth statement at the United Nations General Assembly session commemorating this important day. Elias is a 17-year-old student at Lycée Francaise in New York and Algerian American.
Elias’s statement focused on the need for youth engagement in nuclear disarmament discourse and help for victims of nuclear testing programs. Elias called on all states to join the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons (TPNW), our best hope for a world free of nuclear weapons.
