On November 20, the Soka Institute for Global Solutions at Soka University of America (SUA), organized an event to honor the legacies of Daisaku Ikeda and David Krieger, two champions of the nuclear disarmament movement, and reflect on the relevance of their dialogue, entitled “Choose Hope,” to our world today. The event encouraged continued engagement and renewed inspiration to work toward a world free of nuclear weapons, as well as to carry on the legacies of Ikeda and Krieger dialogue and keep choosing hope amidst the mounting challenges of the present era.

The event was moderated by Miho Takada, SUA class of 2027, who welcomed attendees and reflected on the enduring legacy of “two extraordinary peace builders, Daisaku Ikeda and David Kriger.” Her remarks were followed by another warm welcome by SUA’s President Edward Feasel, who discussed the importance of the Krieger-Ikeda dialogue and its relevance to the ethos of SUA’s mission to create global citizens. President Feasel’s remarks were followed by presentations of the panelists: Dr. Ivana Nikolić Hughes, President of NAPF; Professor Alexander Harang, Professor and Senior Research Fellow, Soka Institute for Global Solutions; Christian N. Ciobanu, Director of Policy and Advocacy at NAPF; Daiki Katsukawa, SUA student and NAPF/RTT Fall Intern; Marina Inoue, Student, Soka University of America.  All panelists were joined together in their commitment to a better world and to continuing to move forward in the way that the Ikeda/Krieger dialogue implores us to. A lively Q&A followed the panel discussion.
