In July 2025, the Nuclear Age Peace Foundation (NAPF) team—Christian Ciobanu (Director of Policy and Advocacy), Kenneth Chiu (Communications and Media Coordinator), and interns Tyler Barrett, David Shi, and Anderson Peck—visited Capitol Hill to meet with Congressional offices and advocate for nuclear disarmament and a shift in U.S. nuclear policy.
Our delegation met with staff from the offices of Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, Senator Chris Murphy, Senator Ed Markey, Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, Representative Ed Case, Representative Ted Lieu, and Delegate Eleanor Holmes Norton. In these discussions, we emphasized the humanitarian and environmental consequences of nuclear weapons, the importance of U.S. engagement with the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons (TPNW), and the urgent need to redirect nuclear weapons funding toward pressing global challenges such as climate resilience and justice for impacted communities.
The team specifically advocated for H.R. 2775, introduced by Delegate Norton (D-DC), which urges the U.S. to sign and ratify the TPNW and reallocate nuclear weapons spending to climate action. We also called for a formal U.S. apology for its role in nuclear testing in Kiribati, highlighting the need for accountability and reparative justice.
