Smithsonian Controversy
On 30 January 1995, Smithsonian Secretary I. Michael Heyman, responding to criticism by the Air Force Association, the American Legion, and some members of Congress and the Press, announced the cancellation of the National Air and Space Museum’s planned exhibit, titled The Last Act: The Atomic Bomb and the End of World War II.
