Community Caucuses
On Saturday, February 16, the Nuclear Age Peace Foundation
co-sponsored a hearing in Madison, Wisconsin on U.S.
Nuclear Weapons Policy and the proposed nuclear Complex
Transformation. Working with local and national peace groups, the
Nuclear Age Peace Foundation helped to empower the people of Wisconsin
to organize an incredible event. Members of state and federal government,
historians, and medical and policy experts all attended. More than
sixty people participated by submitting comments for the federal
record opposing the Department of Energy’s proposed Complex Transformation.
It is the hope of the Nuclear Age Peace Foundation that communities
around the country will hold their own events. We’re going
to show you how, provide you with resources, and help you along
the way!
How to plan your own Community Caucus
The decision to build new nuclear weapons threatens us all. This
event will allow your community to have a voice in deciding the
future of U.S. nuclear weapons policy by providing a forum for
comments to be recorded in the federal record. Although this specific
event is focused specifically on the comment period for the Department
of Energy’s proposed nuclear Complex Transformation, it is
important that this debate and these events continue long after
the Complex Transformation is defeated! This work plan can
be altered to fit whatever nuclear issue you are currently working
on.
This plan allows for a 4 to 6 week timetable for planning a community
event. Not all events require this much time, especially if you
are building on an existing event or have a large working group.
Cater your hearing and timetable to your community. Remember,
we are available to assist you at every step of the process!
Here's the suggested timetable, by week: Week
