UCSB Associated Students is a diverse non-profit organization fully funded by students. A.S. provides a wide range of programs for students and the larger community, including but not limited to legal counseling, recycling, bike maintenance, films, lectures, and cultural events. A.S. is composed of executive officers, student representatives, professional and student staff, and many volunteers. A.S. was awarded with UCSA’s Undergraduate Association of the Year award during UCSA’s annual Lobby Conference at UC Davis February 2005. URL: http://www.as.ucsb.edu/ 
Based in Philadelphia, the American Friends Service Committee carries out service, development, social justice, and peace programs throughout the world. Founded by Quakers in 1917 to provide conscientious objectors with an opportunity to aid civilian war victims, AFSC's work attracts the support and partnership of people of many races, religions, and cultures. AFSC's work is based on the Quaker belief in the worth of every person and faith in the power of love to overcome violence and injustice. The organization's mission and achievements won worldwide recognition in 1947 when it accepted the Nobel Peace Prize with the British Friends Service Council on behalf of all Quakers. Educators for Social Responsibility Metropolitan Area works in public schools and community organizations throughout the New York City metropolitan area to help teachers, youngsters, parents, and youth activists build skills, knowledge and community. F ounded in 1982 by educators concerned about the dangers of nuclear war, ESR's programs concentrate on two approaches: teaching children and adults skills in conflict resolution and intercultural understanding as well as promoting critical thinking, social awareness, and action in the classroom and beyond. Tri-Valley CAREs (California) - Tri-Valley CAREs was founded in 1983 by local citizens concerned that nuclear weapons work at the Lawrence Livermore and Sandia Livermore Laboratories was impacting the environmental well-being of our communities. Organizational goals are as follows: to clean up the Labs and reduce environmental and health hazards; to convert the Labs to socially beneficial, environmentally sound research; to end nuclear weapons research, design and testing in the United States; to abolish nuclear weapons worldwide; and to promote forthright communication and democratic decision-making in public policy on nuclear weapons issues, locally, nationally and globally.
