SANTA BARBARA, October 29 -- Over 250 people came together at the Nuclear Age Peace Foundation's 27th Annual Evening for Peace to celebrate the accomplishments of two distinguished peace leaders (See photo gallery.)

On October 29, 2010, the Nuclear Age Peace Foundation honored Professor Glenn Paige and Reverend James Lawson at the Coral Casino in Santa Barbara, California.

This year's extraordinary honorees gave those in attendance a mixture of hope, insight and inspiration with their outstanding acceptance speeches.

In his address, Prof. Glenn Paige greeted the audience with a long wave of both hands in the nonviolent Jain tradition of India. Prof. Paige, author of the book Nonkilling Political Science, expressed confidence that humans will be able to arrive at a point where nonkilling becomes the norm.

Rev. James Lawson, who Martin Luther King, Jr. once called "the leading theorist and strategist of nonviolence in the world," delivered a rousing speech that combined lessons of the Civil Rights movement with strong hope for a peaceful future.

The generosity of Foundation donors made it possible for more than 90 students to attend the event for free. Many of them will continue to be involved with the Foundation through the Peace Leadership Program, the Action Alert Network and the internship program.

The Foundation would like to thank all the people and organizations who contributed financial resources, time, creativity and in-kind donations to make the Evening for Peace a success.
