On
Saturday, November 15th, 2003,
the Foundation will host its 20th Annual Evening for Peace.
The honorees will be illustrious singer/songwriter and
humanitarian Harry Belafonte
and critically-acclaimed author Jonathan
Schell. In addition, four local
individuals will be honored as "Community Peace Heroes"
for their lifelong commitment and activities aimed at
building a more peaceful world: Babatunde Folayemi, Gene
Knudsen Hoffman, Frank K. Kelly and Genevieve Nowlin.
This event also celebrates the Foundation's 20th anniversary
of waging peace.
Since 1984, the Foundation has honored some
of the great peace leaders of our time with its Distinguished
Peace Leadership Award, including Archbishop Desmond
Tutu, His Holiness the XIVth Dalai Lama, Jacques-Yves
Cousteau, Helen Caldicott, Jody Williams and King Hussein
of Jordan. The Foundation's World
Citizenship Award has been presented since 1998 to
such luminaries as Ted Turner, Queen Noor of Jordan, Daisaku
Ikeda and Dr. Robert Muller.

Harry Belafonte will recieve the Foundation's
2003 World Citizenship Award in honor of his lifelong
service to humanity and the children of the world. He
has given voice to the aspirations of people seeking peace
and justice from all corners of the planet. He worked
closely eith Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. on civil rights
issues and is currently a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador.

Jonathan
Schell will recieve the Foundation's 2003 Distinguished
Peace Leadership Award in recognition of his clear, intelligent
and tireless voice for ending the nuclear weapons threat
to humanity. He is the Pultzer Prize -- nominee author
of the seminal book, The Fate of the Earth, and numerous
other books. He lectures widely and has taught at Yale,
Harvard and other top universities. Biography.
