2009 Swackhamer Video Contest
Winners have been announced

Breakthrough: Putting the Nuclear Genie Back in the Bottle

President Obama has stated, “This is the moment to begin the work of seeking the peace of a world without nuclear weapons.” We want to make sure that the new US policy reflects this position, and we are working hard to make sure President Obama’s words are turned into action.

Many proponents of nuclear weapons argue that nuclear weapons cannot be “un-invented,” or that “the nuclear genie cannot be put back in the bottle.”

How can we achieve a world free of nuclear weapons by the year 2020? Once this is achieved, how can we make sure that the “nuclear genie” stays in the bottle forever? Make a video of 3 minutes or less addressing these questions.

Eligibility: The contest is open to people of all ages.

Awards: 1st Place: $1,000
                2nd Place: $750
                3rd Place: $250        
                Up to 5 Honorable Mentions

Deadline: All entries must be received electronically by 5:00 pm Pacific Time on June 15, 2009.

Rules: A submission that does not adhere to all of the contest rules will not be considered for an award.

  1. Contest begins on April 1, 2009
  2. Submission must be in English (if language is used).
  3. Submission must not contain copyrighted material (audio or video). Creative Commons (CC)material is allowed with adherence to the particular item's CC license.
  4. Submission must not exceed 3 minutes in length.
  5. Submission must be on topic.
  6. Submission must not contain foul language or slander.
  7. Contestants must upload video entries to the 2009 Swackhamer Contest YouTube page.
  8. Contestants must submit the official entry form as described below (entries are now closed).
  9. Winners will be responsible for providing NAPF with a high-resolution copy of their video.

How to Enter: Join the YouTube group at www.youtube.com/group/genieinbottle. Once you have uploaded your video on the YouTube page, fill out the contest entry form (entries are now closed). You will need to include your video’s URL on your entry form.

Resources: Following are some resources that you might find useful while planning your video:

Judging: A committee of filmmakers and educators selected by the Nuclear Age Peace Foundation will judge entries on the basis of originality of ideas, creativity and clarity of expression. Winners will be announced on July 15, 2009.

All Rights Reserved: All submissions become the property of the Nuclear Age Peace Foundation and may be used by the Foundation on its website or in publications. All products resulting from the winning proposals become the property of the Nuclear Age Peace Foundation. The Foundation reserves the right to publish or broadcast all submissions to the contest.
