Potential Projects for NAPF Interns

The intern's specific responsibilities will be determined based on his/her field of interest/study and individual skills. This is a partial list of projects that interns have worked on in the past:

  1. Work on the Sunflower e-newsletter.
  1. Promote and distribute the Foundation’s DVD.
  1. Promote and organize the Swackhamer disarmament video contest.
  1. Organize the Barbara Mandigo Kelly Peace Poetry Contest.
  1. Identify potential grant opportunities.
  1. Work with the Director of Development to write grant proposals.
  1. Strengthen the Foundation’s media contact list for local, regional and national press.
  1. Manage the peace resources library.
  1. Management and further development of www.wagingpeace.org.
  1. Monitor nuclear-related developments in Washington, DC and provide ideas for email action alerts.
  1. Manage the Foundation’s email membership list.
  1. Manage and improve the Foundation’s presence on the online social networking sites MySpace, Facebook and Twitter.
  1. Assist with outreach and resource development for the Peace Leaders program.
  1. Help organize the Foundation's Sadako Peace Day commemoration.
  1. Create short videos for the Foundation to use online.
  1. Work on the Foundation's main website, www.wagingpeace.org.
  1. General management of the Nuclear Files website.
  1. Collect new materials (and permission to use the materials) for Nuclear Files.
  1. Create new original material for the Nuclear Files website (history, biography, etc).

  2. Do a study of best practices for email lists, particularly focusing on maintaining/growing the list, effectively soliciting donations, etc.

  3. Research, analysis and writing. A partial list of topics includes:
    • Missile defense
    • Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty
    • Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty (START) / US-Russia bilateral agreements
    • New nuclear weapons development in current nuclear weapon states
    • Disarmament in Libya, South Africa and Kazakhstan
    • Nuclear Weapon-Free Zones
